About the band
Legiana Collective is a modern folk band that is based in the Netherlands and plays their original compositions and traditionals from all over the world. The focus is on the harmonic blending of the singers voices, accompanied by acoustic instrumentation. Legiana's live shows are always lively, theatrical and danceable, breathing a love of sharing their surprising music with the audience.
The band Legiana Collective has created its own sound from various folk influences, recognisable by the polyphonic arrangements of the female singers accompanied by a surprising array of traditional acoustic instruments. Since 2020 they have developed from different folk traditions, into an original group with their own compositions and a worldly sound.
Legiana started on the streets of Europe, and developed into a fully-fledged podium show, that does not forsake its acoustic sound and theatrical presentation. They have played international tours with shows at Bout du Monde, Rudolstadt, Eurofolk, Millo Verde and Pelpass, and shows in Paradiso, Mezrab and Grounds in the Netherlands, where they are based, but you can always run into them on the street or in a jam session.
After their first album, Ariège, the four piece Legiana ensemble on cello, violin, guitar and jarana, expanded with a larger group of musicians that found each other in their shared love of traditional music. The greater part of their second album Wicked Light consists of original songs, threaded with old traditionals that get a new life in Legiana-style.
In 2026 Legiana Collective has released a new album, Te Cantaré, on vinyl and cd with eight original compositions recorded in a live setting. This was only possible with the help of Studio150 in Amsterdam, where they could capture the full, layered, live sound that Legiana Collective brings to their music. The album marks an expansion of the collective's musical languages and themes, from traditional to current issues that they take to heart.
As they continue to evolve, the range of their repertoire expands from warm-blooded story-telling to boisterous dance numbers. Legiana's live shows are always lively, theatrical and danceable, breathing a love of sharing their surprising music with the audience. Seeing Legiana Collective live is like traveling to a mountain village in the Pyrenees, a cobbled street in Italy or an Irish bar where folks are dancing, laughing and singing.

Legiana Collective heeft een eigen sound ontwikkeld vanuit verschillende folktradities. De band is herkenbaar aan de polyfone arrangementen van de vrouwelijke vocalisten, begeleid door een verrassende verzameling traditionele akoestische instrumenten. Sinds 2020 heeft de groep zich vanuit uiteenlopende folktradities ontwikkeld tot een origineel ensemble met eigen composities en een wereldse sound.
Legiana ontstond op de straten van Europa en groeide uit tot een volwaardige podiumact, zonder daarbij het akoestische geluid en de theatrale presentatie los te laten. De band speelde internationale tournees en stond onder meer op Bout du Monde, Rudolstadt, Eurofolk, Millo Verde en Pelpass. In Nederland, waar de band gevestigd is, trad Legiana op in Paradiso, Mezrab en Grounds. Toch kun je de band ook zomaar op straat tegenkomen of tijdens een jamsessie.

Het grootste deel van hun tweede album, Wicked Light, bestaat uit eigen werk, verweven met oude traditionals die nieuw leven krijgen in de typische Legiana-stijl.
In 2026 bracht Legiana Collective een nieuw album uit: Te Cantaré, op vinyl en cd, met acht originele composities die live zijn opgenomen. Dit was alleen mogelijk dankzij Studio150 in Amsterdam, waar de volledige, gelaagde livesound van Legiana kon worden vastgelegd. Het album markeert een verbreding van de muzikale talen en thema’s van de groep: van traditionele muziek tot actuele onderwerpen die de band na aan het hart liggen.
Naarmate Legiana zich verder ontwikkelt, groeit ook de veelzijdigheid van hun repertoire: van warme, meeslepende verhalen tot uitbundige dansnummers. De liveshows van Legiana zijn altijd levendig, theatraal en dansbaar, en ademen een liefde voor het delen van hun verrassende muziek met het publiek. Legiana Collective live zien is als een reis naar een bergdorpje in de Pyreneeën, een geplaveid straatje in Italië of een Ierse pub waar mensen dansen, lachen en samen zingen.
